That's right, solar powered! This is a webcam of my own design and is a nearly perfect fusion of my many interests including engineering, weather, the internet, and all things powered by the sun. Sadly, I couldn't find a way to work my interest in fishing into this project, but four out of five isn't bad. This project was initially inspired by my desire to have a weather cam to compliment the realtime Altadena weather page I plan to put together some day. But then I noticed this pair of birds who would come to nest in our yard like clockwork every springtime. And the nest is in a spot that's just perfect for training a webcam on it making it possible to keep a close, unobtrusive eye on the birds and their habits. So, this webcam will serve dual purposes. Eventually, it's primary purpose will be to serve as a weathercam. But until then, whenever the birds have come to nest here, it will serve as a birdcam.
